The summer trilogy
Can Rhalou run three half marathons in one month? Hell yeah she can!
Wednesday, 24 August, 2011
If you'd asked me a couple of years ago what I planned to spend my summer doing, I'd probably have said chilling, working and hanging out in the park. If you'd asked me a year ago, I might have said tentatively training for my first half marathon, in-between chilling, working and hanging out in the park. Fast forward a couple of years and my life couldn't be more different. Although I've technically been hanging out in the park, chilling has gone out the window and I've spent the summer training for no less than three halves and one whole marathon. And the craziest bit? The three halves are all in the month of September.
The Great Scottish Run
I'm really excited about GSR because not only is Scotland a beautiful place that I'd love to explore more, but I get to stay with my Dad who lives in the Borders. I'm also really looking forward to meeting some of my new running friends including the amazing ultra wild man www.runner786.com who has very kindly offered to pace me on race day, what a hero. It's tricky for Women's Running to give Scotland the coverage it deserves as the WR girls are southern based, so it'll be really great to meet some readers, check out Glasgow, and run like a wild banshee! For more details visit www.runglasgow.org/GSR-2011The Bristol Half Marathon
I went to uni in Bristol so I'm really looking forward to the Bristol Half, as I'll get to see lots of lovely old friends, including my amazing friend Alice. The course also runs under the Clifton suspension bridge along the River Severn, so it'll be a beautiful route and a great weekend. For more details visit www.runbristol.comRun To The Beat
For the last but by no means least of my half marathon trilogy, I'm delighted to be running Run To The Beat with the Nike team and I know this is going to be one epic race day! Not only does the route start reassuringly close to home (so I can crawl back to my bed afterwards) but lots of my amazing friends from Run Dem Crew.com will be there, including the gorgeous girls from Team Bangs on the Run. With so many lovely friends in tow and lots of sexy music to keep us energised, Run To The Beat looks set to be a rocking day out.For more details visit www.runtothebeat.co.uk But just when you think it's all over, I will also be running the ING New York City Marathon this November! We've still got places, so if you'd like to join my running crew in the Big Apple, click here for details! This time two years ago the idea of running 13 miles just once would have scared the hell out of me, never mind three times in one month. Now I'm doing twice that mileage in training every week and can't wait to put my legs to the test on race day. At this rate, who knows what I'll be doing this time next summer? If you're in any of these fine cities, please say hi if you see me running by! I'll be easy to spot, as I'll be the one wearing these hot pink trainers courtesy of the lovely folk at Nike iD which I designed myself last week!
