Voodoo runner

The sun is shining, the birds are singing and spring is in the air! With less than three weeks to go until the Brighton Marathon, I’ve got my fancy dress sorted, I’ve done all the right training, and I’m technically ready for race day. So why, all of us a sudden during my long run last weekend I should be stricken with a mysterious and incredibly painful foot injury, I do not know. I am baffled! I was just running along as usual, with no new shoes, new moves, or new conditions, when suddenly the top of my foot started to hurt. I carried on regardless, as I often get the odd twinge and it usually disappears, but by the end of my run I could hardly move without wincing in pain. I suppose I should accept that such is the life of a long distance runner, and it’s probably my body telling me I need to stop punishing it. But having done all the right things to ensure my first marathon went smoothly, with only one long run to go before my big day, it feels grossly unfair and I am devastated to say the least. As a vegetarian, teetotal, humanitarian who is always nice to old ladies, the Goddesses of Running must be punishing me for something terrible I did in a past life.I spent the last couple of nights with my foot iced and elevated (not as fun as it sounds) and I’ve booked a session with the physio next week, but with The Vitality Show this weekend, I’ve got lots of running around to do and even without the training there will be no rest for this lady! I am nothing if not resilient though, and this minor setback has quadrupled my determination to run like the wind. I did not spend months running in the dark, begging my friends and family for sponsorship and boring everyone senseless with training talk, to be beaten by a measly foot injury. So even if I have to lick my way around the race course, I will be finishing that damn marathon, and I will be finishing it in style! Rant over. If anyone would like to cure my mystery foot pain and propel me across the finish line, I am willing to partake in satanic voodoo rituals.
