Santa Dash on 4th December 2010 postponed due to bad weather
The Santa Dash scheduled for Saturday 4th December in London’s Battersea Park has been postponed due to bad weather. The run will instead take place the following Saturday, 11th December at the same start time of 10am. The ground in the park has frozen, so the wise decision has been made to avoid putting runners at risk of injury.Sarah Bennett, Fundraising & Events Manager for the charity Disability Snowsport UK, has sent us this statement: ‘We are in touch with the Met Office regarding the weather conditions the night before and early in the morning of Saturday 4th December. The forecast is for a low of -7C overnight and possible light rain or sleet in the morning. Fresh snow would not be a problem to run on but the combination of a deep frost with light rain falling could possibly provide black ice in the morning, making it unsafe to run. Battersea Park is kindly letting us restage the run on Saturday 11th December.’
If you are planning to take part, keep your race number to use on the new day. Timings and all other instructions remain the same, so refer to your joining instructions already sent to you. The charity adds: ‘As this is a charity event and the charity has already met the expenses of hiring the venue, purchasing Santa suits and medals, unfortunately, we are unable to offer a refund of your entry fee if you are now unable to make the revised date. We apologise for the inconvenience caused, however the wellbeing and safety of all runners is our main priority. Thank you for your understanding and patience with this matter.’Women’s Running Editor Christina Neal, who was planning to participate, welcomes the decision. ‘I think it’s the right call because at the moment walking around in the snow and ice is treacherous, never mind running in it. For the safety of everyone, I think it’s the right thing to do. I can only imagine how frustrated myself, along with many other runners, would be if they were to fall over and get injured. I can live with not being able to run for one day – not being able to run due to injury for a longer period of time would be very frustrating, especially as many people have marathons to train for at this time of year. Well done to Disability Snowsport for rearranging the date so that the run can still take place on 11th December.’For more information, visit www.santadash.co.uk
