Thought it might help to focus people or inspire us all if we were to declare our Goals (running or otherwise) for 2012. To start us off I declare the following -

1. to complete a half marathon (Edinburgh rock&roll half signed up for & training begun!)
2. having lost 4 stone through running and dieting I would like to lose another stone to bring me back to somewhere near my 'wedding weight'!
3. to spend more(quality)time with my children, life is going by so quickly and they are growing up so fast ( at 6, 9 and 13!), before I know it they will be away from home doing their own thing.

I sense their may be some conflict amongst those goals but c'est la vie!

Over to you ladies...........

Good luck to you! I've already listed mine on another running forum but no harm in repeating them here.

* Run 5k without stopping to walk
* Run 5k in under 30 mins
* Run 10k without stopping to walk
* Run 10k in under 60 mins
* Run 500 miles in 2012
* Complete a Half Marathon

I'm just returning to running after an op 7 weeks ago but have already signed up for Baxters River Ness 10k in September and Rock'n'Roll HM in Edinburgh in April and my brand new Garmin I got for Xmas has 3 runs logged in it already so I am raring to go in 2012! :D

Mine sound boring in comparison with you lot! I usually have a long list, but this time I'm focusing on 4:

1) To hell with actual weight loss, as long as I eat sensibly (small meals, very few carbs) then I will be happy. However, I want to concentrate on my running posture, technique and do different sports in between but mainly concentrating on my core exercises (hopefully that will make me run faster and for longer!)
2) Improve my french
3) Not waste too much time watching TV (be more productive in the house and garden)
4) Brain train as I have a terrible memory

There, I've committed them to this forum now so no going back!

Improve time for 10k
Run GNR in 2 hrs (or less). My current pb for a HM is 2hr 11

10 x 10km races in 2012, yikes!
Posted:
My main goal for 2012 is to get through the challenge of running ten 10km races. Which I suspect will be easier said than done! Breaking that down, I'd love to get a couple of those done in under 50 minutes, though sub-55 minutes might be more realistic. If I can get my 5km speed to under 30 minutes first, I'll be happy. Need to sign up for all of these races first though...

Aside from running, I'd love to get back into eating proper healthy food again, I've been somewhat, um, relaxed with my diet over the last few months! 2011 has been a heck of a year, so looking forward to really making something of the coming year.

This thread is just what I need for motivation. Hummingbird, loving the 10 x 10k in 2012!

Just totalled up my mileage for 2011, which came to 816 miles. This was a combination of cycling & running, but mainly running. Would love to aim for over 1000 miles in 2012. Just found someone else aiming for 1006 (half of 2012) so think I might work towards that but will need to run more regularly and consistently throughout the year!

Fingers crossed for running success in 2012 for everyone, mine will be subject to kids, dog, family life, weather and whatever else life throws in my way!

Fab to see everyone's goals - so much variety and different things to work towards!

I've made a few this year - I always do.

* Stay fit and active (and lose a stone)
* Do my first triathlon/ Tough Guy event
* Do something new and/or scary at least once a month
* Join a sports team (sport to be decided, may actually just join a running club which I've bottled out of for two years!)
* Get married (My personal favourite!)

Hi Mackie,
Yes I have had a look on there and many other places to sort out what's best for me. It's very difficult for me to follow any of the set plans because I have a weird working pattern, but I have an overall weekly mileage plan and a steadily increasing long run target so I should get there ok in the end! Thanks for taking the trouble to post the link!

LOVE this thread! It's so motivating seeing what other people are up to!
So here goes!

1) Run a race a quarter (I have signed up for - Sudbury 5mile fun run - Good Friday; Great British London 10k - July 8th; Great South Run 28th October)
2) Turn up for the races I've entered (I'm notorious for entering races and then 'bottling' it - mainly cos I enter smaller ones and then get physced out! So this year, only big and beautiful for me!)
3) Incorporate daily activity which may not be running i.e. a lunchtime walk, gardening, washing the car, housework - something which stops work or the TV sucking away my soul!
4) Ensure that I run frequently leaving no more than two clear rest days between runs
5)Stop focusing on food as the enemy and treat it like fuel (I hope this will come about as a product of the other 4, with a by product of some weight loss but I too am fed up with putting a number on it - and failing!)
6)Try to remember all the fantastic things I have and what I've acheived in all areas of life and stop focusing on the things I haven't yet managed - and stop beating myself up with them!
7) Be happier in my skin ; )

Less than three weeks to go to the MK Marathon!
Posted:
Lots of inspiration from you all. My goals for 2012 are pretty similar

1. Complete the MK Marathon in April
2. Enter GNR 2012 and improve on my time. Knocked 10mins off in 2011. Aiming for sub 2.15 in 2012
3. Lose a stone in weight, but probably not until after the April marathon
4. Find more family time, might be tuff with the long runs leading up to April, but the kids are only for s short while (ages 11, 7 and 4)

Hi Ladies thought it was time to try and update the thread. So here it goes for me

1 - training for rock&roll half well underway and going well. Did 9.5 miles today and feeling good.

2 - hmm bit stuck on the old weight loss thing as still struggling to lose what i put on over the festive! getting back in to the swing of it now and hoping my increased mileage and attempts at tempo/fartleking will make the difference rather than just make me hungry!

3 - think im going to have to come up with a plan and timetable into my diary the quality time with kids thing. Life has got busy again, now they are back to school, clubs etc. Spending quality time with them by driving them around was not quite what I had in mind.

So to conclude could do better!

Over to you ladies......

* Stay fit and active (and lose a stone)

I have generally been staying fit and exercise most days. I haven't lost any weight but haven't put any on either. I am also slowly battling the demons I have with food which actually is more important. I'd still like to be less flabby round my tummy for my wedding though!

* Do my first triathlon/ Tough Guy event

I am signed up for Tri in June. I did tough guy. Well most of it before being advised to finish due to early onset hypothermia! Loved the change from race running though and have signed up for the major series in Mar

* Do something new and/or scary at least once a month

I haven't done anything like this consciously - but still have some of Feb left!

* Join a sports team (sport to be decided, may actually just join a running club which I've bottled out of for two years!)

I am waiting till I settle back in my hometown to do this - no point joining a team just to leave it!

* Get married (My personal favourite!)

Hi

Only just found this thread (which is surprising as I am on here most days). Thinks its a really good idea. Here are my goals - and progress so far.

1. Keep a running/training diary - its working so far, but then again its only February. I've never managed to keep any diary going for longer then a few weeks, so success so far.
2. Try and improve on my half marathon times, which are normally around the 2 hour and 15 minutes mark. I'm like the duracell bunny and can keep going but still not that fast - progress is okayish. I am doing lots of speed and hill sessions, but guess until I do a race then not sure of the times.
3. Join a running club - progress PANTS. I live in France and have done for over 3 years but speak rubbish French, so nervous about communicating (but then again have a non running goal of improving my French, so can cover 2 goals at the same time). I have though got some information and looked at the website, but it looked very professional and they were wearing those little crop tops and running pants and I don't think my bum cheeks will fit into them. But I will try and pluck up the courage if the pants aren't compulsory.
4. Badger and annoy my few friends that run into becoming a running buddy, having lost my last one to a move back to the UK - progress - rubbish, I think they think I take it too seriously!!
5. Do the Nice to Cannes Marathon in November this year. Our friend runs a charity for an orphanage and school in Uganda where we sponsor a little boy - would be good to raise money for that - Progress on track so far with training, but then it is 9 months away.

Good luck everyone else with their goals - look forward to hearing updates.

Run for yourself, no-one else

Oh busymumof3anddog - I feel as well as letting myself down, I've let you down and everyone else. I only had 4 resolutions on my list, but in my defence I have a twisted pelvis and cannot run at present so, improving my technique and posture whilst running is a no-no. I was running with both a trapped nerve and a twisted pelvis at the beginning of the year with my friend who is training for the London Marathon and talks whilst running - something I cannot do! Anyway, after being told about my pelvis, my physio advised me to cancel the Silverstone Half Marathon. I've done that and am gutted as I was hoping for a PB and, more importantly, wanted to run for the Dogs Trust. I seem to have no motivation to improve my pelvis which does not help my depression which I feel is rearing its ugly head again. On a positive note, for my 50th birthday a 4yr old German Shepherd renamed Cain adopted me and I love to walk him! Yesterday we walked 12 and a half miles in the Peak District (should've been 10 and a half, but we got lost! Thanks husband!) I try to walk him twice a day shifts permitting (my husband walks him the 1st/2nd walk so he doesn't go short). Unfortunately, my right leg/hip in permanently in pain. In a weird way I will be glad to get back to work, only because I will be on foot patrol and eating sensibly, as I'm fed up with my eating habits at the moment! However, once fit (note the absence of fully), I WILL persevere with my resolutions. Sorry for going on, but I haven't felt like writing anything on this forum until now. Hoping everyone succeeds in one way or another with their resolutions xxx
